Light House at Alappuzha , Renovated

On a previous post on this site itself , we discussed about the Alleppey light house . After the massive renovation process done and re dedication to the nation on December 2012 , we thought this historic monument of alleppey is worth a second mention here . At the time of the first post about the lightr house , this structure was in rather pathetic condition with the wooden stairs broken and the surroundings looked little but awkward . But all these are a thing of past with the beautiful renovation process and now it must be a mandatory item on the places to visit on your trip to Alleppey .

The ambiance of the place is really improved with new office and friendly persons at the ticket counter and a well maintained walkway to the light house. The light house is repainted in bright red and white , tiles were placed on the floor and the wooden structure is re furbished. When I visted last time , the place was almost deserted but now it is frequented by families and tourists . കുട്ടികളുടെ നിര്ബന്ധം കൊണ്ട് വൈകുന്നേരം ആലപ്പുഴ വിജയ്‌ പാർക്കിൽ പോയതാണ് , ആലപ്പുഴക്കാർ അല്ലതവർ പാർക്ക്‌ എന്ന് കേട്ടു വലിയ ആവേശം കൊള്ളേണ്ട , ആലപ്പുഴ [പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ ഒരു പഴയ കാല പ്രതാപത്തിൽ ഒന്ന് എന്ന് കൂടിയാൽ മതി , പാർക്കിൽ നിന്നും പുറത്തിറങ്ങി കുട്ടികൾ അവിടെയുളള പുൽത്തകിടിയിൽ കളിയ്ക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി , വേറെയും കുറെ കുട്ടികൾ അവിടെ കളിക്കുന്നുണ്ട് , കുറച്ചു സമയം കഴിഞു നോക്കിയപ്പോൾ ഒരു ഭാഗത്ത്‌ എന്തോ ഒരു കിണർ പോലെ കണ്ടു അങ്ങോട്ട്‌ ചെന്നതാണ് , ഒരു മുതിര്ന്ന ആളെ ഉൾക്കൊള്ളാൻ പാകത്തിൽ ഒരു കിണർ പോലെ ഒരു സംഭവം . നമ്മുടെ റോഡുകളിൽ ഇത് ഒരു സാധാരണ സംഭവം ആയതു കൊണ്ട് സൂക്ഷിച്ചാണ് നടക്കാറ് , എന്നാൽ കുട്ടികള്ക്ക് കളിയ്ക്കാൻ ഒരുക്കി ഇട്ട സ്ഥലത്ത് ഇത് ആര് പ്രതീഷിക്കുന്നു ? സ്വന്തം കുട്ടി വീണില്ല എന്നതിനേക്കാൾ ഇനിയും അവിടെ കുട്ടികൾ കളിക്കുന്നുണ്ടല്ലോ എന്ന് വിചാരിച്ചു അവിടെ കണ്ട സെക്യൂരിറ്റി സ്റ്റാഫ്‌ ഇനോട് അത് എന്താണ് എന്ന് തിരക്കി , , വളരെ മാന്യമായ ഭാഷയിൽ തന്നെ പുള്ളി കുട്ടികളെ ഉരുണ്ടു വീഴാതെ നോക്കാൻ സ്വന്തം വീട്ടില് തന്നെ നിർത്തിയാൽ മതി എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു

ഫോട്ടോ എടുക്കുന്ന്നത് കണ്ടപ്പോൾ ചേട്ടൻ വിശദീകരണം ആയി വന്നു , ഹൈ മാസ്റ്റ് ലൈറ്റ് സ്ഥാപിക്കാൻ വേണ്ടി എടുത്ത കിണർ ആണെന്നും കരാറുകാരൻ കുഴി മൂടാത്തത് സെക്യൂരിറ്റി ജീവനക്കാരന്റെ കുറ്റം അല്ല എന്നും . അതും ശരിയാണ് , എന്തെങ്ങിലും അപകടം വരുന്ന വരെ നമുക്ക് കാത്തിരിക്കാം

What is so Attractive about SWTD website ?

State water trasport department website hacked for second time in a row , with a time span of 2 years in between

and the alligattion is on a hacking group based in pakistan named KhantastiC Haxor.

Nice to know that the website of Water transport department is of such topic of interest to hackers around the world . The initial attack was on January 2009 and the site was down for two years ( no big surprise as it is the website of a government department ) . Even after this two years of downtime , when the site was up on 2011 , we have to conclude that the hackers was waiting all these years for this site to become up again .

What prompted me for this post was this news on Malayala Manorma on March -6th -2012

The news mentioned about the third attempt from SWTD to create a website , now with more security features. It also mentions that since the new security softwares are planned , the estimated cost of the new website is expected to be Rs 2,00,000 .

Here araises some basic questions regarding the new plan

Till now the previous websites was designed by informatic centre with out any charge . Now we have to assume that the new project is given to some third party agencies as the cost mentioned on the news indicates .

The news also mentions that the website is going to be designed with joomla CMS. with flash support hence the exorbitant cost . Joomla is a free content management system which can be installed on any hosting account in few minutes and a basic website designer can finish the full work with in two or three days .

Hope the department officials will clarify the technical aspect regarding the cost factor so that the people will not do any allegation of a vested interest on this project .

How about little bit of technology discussion for a crowd in festive mood ? that is what the group of persons from Corona institute of technology done on the industrial exhibition held at Alleppey Town as part of the cultural festival and flower show held annually on the month of December .

The flower show and industrial exhibition is not an ideal location to discuss about the technology in general and the inside details of the laptop in particular. But since the information technology is part of everyday life of even the lay mans in technology , the team from Corona decided to go ahead with the idea of imparting the know about the intricate details of the laptops to the general public.

The First part of the project was to create an exhibit which will be appealing and self explanatory. We disassembled a normal laptop in to parts and assembled in on a 4 X 2 feet transparent fiber glass sheet. The only part that was excluded was thhe battery which will make the final product more heavier .

After the initial assembling process and test and quality control of the finished product is over we marked all the parts with vinyl stickers placed on the transparent sheet that made the stuff almost self explanatory.

The exhibition commenced on 21st of December at alleppey town and during the one week exhibition more than 25,000 people visited the stall and more than 1000 demonstration sessions were held for people from all walks of life .

The medial attention to our stall begin by a news coverage by a local channel named Alleppey television Network followed by startnet and NewStar and the newspaper coverage by Malayala Manorama , Deepika and rashtra deepika really helped us to bring the event to the public attention.

Most of the discussions held was for students of age group between 10 and 15 which convinced us that it is high time we should stop ignoring these little technocrats . these students outperformed most of the other groups which include engineering graduates and IT professionals
